This one had been a long time coming! Not necessarily this route, or this date, but conquering my nerves of taking Ellie on a multi-day backcountry trip by myself. . Why was I so nervous? Influence. So much of our culture and media loves to share stories of rock star mom's taking their kids on wicked cool adventures. Which is great! Mom's can be some of the most rad adventures there are! But so can dad's. And largely, that story isn't being told. . I didn't see others dad's doing solo parent backcountry adventures. I wasn't sure if I could even do it without Bekah because no one (except Bekah of course) was telling me or showing me I could. But that's exactly where I went wrong, relying on others to determine my ability to parent. . So here I am, sleeping in a tent with my little girl curled up in a ball against my side on the third night of our "No mom allowed" bikepacking ride around the Grand Canyon of the East, Linville Gorge. . I needed this. Is adventuring with Bekah more fun? Heck yeah. But I needed to know that I can parent and adventure solo. I can handle the turds, I can handle the meltdowns (both of ours), I can handle the picky eating, I can handle the encliment weather, I can take my daughter into the backcountry and have fun, I can be a freakin awesome adventure dad. . Dad's, be freakin awesome. Don't just be present, push yourself as a parent, step outside of your comfort zone, and do something extraordinary.
